Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) Training

Our Flight Instructor Instrument training is an advanced program designed to equip pilots with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to instruct other pilots in instrument flying. Here at Azzurra Aviation Academy, with our experienced instructors, the training becomes a mentorship journey, blending technical rigor with real-world insight you need to earn your flight instructor instrument certificate.

  1. Ground School (50–60 hours):

Led by the instructor, this phase builds foundational knowledge in:

  • Principles of learning and effective teaching methods specific to instrument flying
  • Flight instructor regulations and responsibilities for instrument training
  • Techniques for conducting flight and ground instruction in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC)
  • Evaluation and assessment methods for instrument proficiency
  • Risk management and safety in instrument flight training

     2. Flight Training (no minimum hours             required) :

    1. Conducted in a certified training aircraft equipped for instrument flight. Includes:

    2. • Hold an instrument rating on your pilot certificate
      • Log sufficient instrument flight time and training time to demonstrate proficiency
      • Be proficient in:
           - Holding procedures
           - Instrument approaches (ILS, VOR, NDB, GPS, etc.)
           - IFR enroute procedures                           - Unusual attitude recovery
           - Teaching instrument procedures from both left and right seats

          3. Checkride Preparation:

        The instructor conducts mock oral exams and flight evaluations focusing on instrument procedures to prepare the student for the FAA Practical Test (checkride), which includes:

        • Oral questioning by a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) regarding instrument flying regulations and procedures
        • A flight test demonstrating instructional proficiency and safety in instrument flight
